CADE Winery, Portfolio Sample, March 5, 2011
While at CADE Winery, we were able to sample four of the phenomenal wines in their magical portfolio. Our gracious host, Mary Ann, treated us to the history of the property and the story of each wine.
CADE, Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley, 2009
Fermented in a mix of stainless steel, oak, & concrete eggs. It's blended with 93% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Semillion, and 1% Viognier. There are wonderful tropical fruit notes on the nose, specifically strong hints of kiwi. There is a classic Sauvignon Blanc presence of grapefruit and gooseberry, but it is well-integrated into the mix. The palate is brilliant and light with silky citrus and grapefruit throughout and a pleasant taste of fig gifted from the Semillion. A very nice and clean finish granted this a perfect start to our sampling.
CADE, Napa Cuvee, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa, 2007
This blend contains 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. The nose is luscious with dark berries, stone fruit, and great hints of smoke. The palate is with cocoa, black cherry, and licorice around its light body and dry tannins. This wine will continue to age well, and in a few years, be even more amazing. WS 92 pts
CADE, Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain, Napa, 2007
The 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot composition gives great aromas of cassis, smoke, stone fruit, and savory scents of vanilla. Cherry, cocoa, herbs, and vanilla give this BIG wine fantastic wholesome flavors. The tannins are still very tight, yet the end is quite round. Again, a few years will make this '07 an even more dazzling edition to the portfolio. WS 92 pts
CADE, Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate, Napa, 2006
The nose on this full bodied wine is full of chocolate, cedar, dark flowers, and sweet, tangy smoke. A full array of flavors enlist this bold bottle of liquid gold. Chocolate and cocoa powder, deep cherry, and dark plum and currant fill this complex structured wine that will evolve over many years to come. The tannins are still strong, but the 17% Merlot added the to 83% Cab helps round out this engulfing flagship wine. Love every drop!
Thank you again, CADE, for your generous hospitality and a fantastic adventure!
